Man:
Dream Travel Agency. How can I help you?
Woman:
Hello, my name’s Sally Graham. I’m calling from Santorini. Your agency organised my holiday here. Unfortunately, the clean
sandy beaches and a luxurious room with a nice view you promised in your brochure are just empty words! Without the tasty
breakfasts and dinners in the hotel bar, my holiday would be a complete disaster. I know you can’t come out here and clean
the beach, but you could at least do something about my room.

Man:
After windy weather yesterday, today in Brighton, only light showers are expected. It’s going to rain in the early afternoon, so
don’t forget to take your umbrellas. All those who long for a little bit of sunshine will have to wait until the end of the week.
The temperature will rise up to 20˚C, and it will be warm and sunny then.
1.3
Boy:
Have you read this book?
Girl:
What is it? Oh,
Twilight
by Stephanie Meyer. Yes, I have. I borrowed it from our school library a few weeks ago.
Boy:
Well, I’ve only seen the ilm on DVD, so I think I’ll buy it.
Girl:
Good idea. But if I were you, I’d get a paperback. This one’s a hardback and it would cost you a lot more.
Boy:
You’re right. Let’s go to the check-out.
1.4
Man:
Me and my parents usually go on holidays together, but, this year, they’ve booked a place for me at a teenage summer camp
in Preston. I’ve already made a list of things I’m going to take with me. For sure, I’ll need a compass and the map my grandad
gave me. I also wanted to take my tennis racket, but the lady organising the camp told me that I don’t need to, because
they’ve got lots of sports equipment at the camp – tennis rackets and badminton stuf are all there. That’s good – the fewer
things I take, the better.

Man:
Look what I’ve got for my birthday.
Woman:
Hmm … cool. Can you take pictures with it?
Man:
Sure, the camera’s here. And I can listen to music while riding a bike or when I’m out walking.
Woman:
Does it have any games?
Man:
Yes, there are a few. It’s got darts and the snake …
Woman:
Have you changed your number?
Man:
No, the SIM card is the same.
Zadanie 2
Lucy:
Hi Tom! What are you doing here?
Tom:
Hi Lucy! I’ve just popped in to buy a present for Sandra. She’s invited me to her birthday party.
Lucy:
Oh, that’s great! I’m also going. What have you bought her?
Tom:
Well, I wanted to buy a box of chocolates and lowers, but I’ve heard that Sandra is on a diet, so I ended up buying her a bunch
of roses. What about you?
Lucy:
Like you,
I haven’t bought her any sweets. Only a scarf and this blouse. Do you think it’s the right size?
Tom:
Oh, I really don’t know …
Lucy:
Anyway, I’m also going to get her a T-shirt.
Tom:
Do you know if Brian has been invited to the party?
Lucy:
Yes, he’s going to be there, too. I even met him an hour ago. He was buying
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows
for Sandra.
That’s the only part she hasn’t read yet.

Tom:
Oh, that’s interesting because Mary has also bought
Harry Potter
for Sandra. But, as far as I remember, it’s not a book but some
kind of computer game.
Lucy:
Oh, I see. So we’re meeting at Sandra’s at 8 pm, right?
Tom:
Yes, that’s right. See you there.

Man:
The Ice Hotel! The irst and largest hotel in the world made entirely out of ice and snow. We will be receiving our irst winter
guests at the beginning of December, but remember to book your room at least ive months in advance. From August, that is
four months before the Ice Hotel opening, there won’t be any free rooms available!
Despite the fact that the ice Hotel is only 200 kilometres from the Arctic Circle, it does melt. That’s why the hotel will be closed
by the end of April, when the sun rays destroy the huge blocks of ice and change them into water. It doesn’t mean, however,
there’s nothing to do. From May, we will be organising ishing competitions, hiking trips and river rafting along the River
Torne.

Boy:
Here she comes!
Girl:
Who?
Boy:
Amelia. She joined our basketball team a month ago. Isn’t she pretty?
Girl:
Well, I don’t think girls with such short hair are pretty.
Boy:
Short hair? Oh, you’re looking at Bella. Amelia is the one with long blonde hair and sunglasses.
Girl:
Anyway, I think that girls with dark hair look more interesting. Besides, Amelia should cut her hair shorter. Such long hair must
be really uncomfortable while playing basketball …

Boy:
Have you been invited to Tina’s party?
Girl:
Yes, I have. But I don’t know what to wear.
Boy:
How about your new combat trousers and a top?
Girl:
No, I don’t want to wear trousers. All the girls will be in skirts and dresses.
Boy:
So why don’t you wear that green mini-skirt?
Girl:
But I wore it at Bill’s party last Friday. I want to put something diferent on. I know! I’m going to wear my favourite blue dress.
Deinitely.
Boy:
Well, it’s your decision. But I like the mini-skirt more.
1.3
Girl:
I’ve decided to start a part-time job, because I want to earn some money for a new laptop. At irst, I thought about delivering
newspapers, but you have to get up really early, and the money’s not so great. So I sent my CV to
Bradley’s
restaurant and they
accepted me. My job is serving customers. I really like it and I know that I’m earn more than if I were babysitting.
1.4
Boy:
Morning! I’d like a bunch of dafodils, please.
Girl:
How many do you need?
Boy:
About 20! It’s for my girlfriend. She works just round the corner.
Girl:
In this newly-opened café?
Boy:
Yes, that’s right. It’s her birthday today so I’m going to give her these lowers and a pair of silver earrings.
Girl:
Wow! She’s a really lucky girl. Here’s your bouquet. I hope she likes it.
Boy:
Me too. Thanks, bye.

Jamie:
Hi, aunt Ellen.
Ellen:
Oh, hi Jamie. How are things?
Jamie:
Not so good, actually. I need your help.
Ellen:
Oh my, what’s happened?
Jamie:
I lied to my mum about my marks, and now she’s angry with me. She won’t let me play computer games or hang out with my
friends. What should I do?
Ellen:
Well, in my opinion, you should say you’re very sorry, and promise that you won’t lie to her again.
Jamie:
Do you think I should buy her something nice, too?
Ellen:
No, that’s not necessary. Just apologise to her.
Jamie:
Thanks aunt Ellen.
Ellen:
Don’t mention it. Good luck.

Jim:
Hi Amanda! What are you doing here?
Amanda:
Hi Jim! I’ve joined the aerobics group.
Jim:
But you always went to chess club meetings on Wednesday.
Amanda:
Well, this semester the chess club meets on Thursday afternoons so I’ve decided to spend some time getting exercise.
Jim:
Good idea! And what about your piano lessons? Are you still doing them?
Amanda:
Yes, I see my music teacher on Fridays, and I practise for two or three hours. I want to take part in the Young Pianists
Competition in Barcelona in Spain.
Jim:
Wow, I’ve never been to Barcelona. And I can’t speak Spanish.
Amanda:
Neither can I. I’m going to have some lessons.
Jim:
Anyway, are you going to be at our reading club meeting on Wednesday?
Amanda:
Wednesday? From January, we’re going to be meeting on Saturdays.
Jim:
Oh, I didn’t know that. I was absent last time. But I thought that the library is closed on Saturdays.
Amanda:
Well, it is. It only opens for our meetings.
Jim:
Oh, I see. So, will you be there this Saturday then?
Amanda:
Sure! See you there.
Zadanie 3
Woman:
Every country has its own wedding traditions. Some are nice and interesting, but some are really strange. For example,
a Scottish wedding has many unique but weird pre-wedding customs. One of them is called ‘The Blackening of the bride,
a custom where the future husband and wife are taken by surprise, and covered with all sorts of disgusting substances, such
as sour milk, rotten eggs, smelly ish, sausages and feathers. The bride and the groom always seem to be prepared for this
pre-wedding tradition, because they don’t even try to run or hide. To make matters worse, after being blackened, the bride
and groom have to walk through the local streets with their friends banging metal pots to announce the wedding.

Amy:
Hi Stella! It’s Amy here! I couldn’t answer the phone, because I was at the cinema with Tom. He invited me to apologise for
forgetting about my birthday. Anyway, I’m calling to tell you that the ilm we saw,
Street Dance
, is really worth watching.
If I were you, I’d see it as soon as possible.
1.2
Boy:
I always spend the summer break with my friends. For example, last year, we spent the whole week at the seaside. We were
sunbathing and swimming in the sea. It was great! This year, we have decided to go camping at the side of a lake and we’ll be
sailing and kayaking there. To be honest, I don’t like this idea. Sailing is not for me. I’d prefer to go climbing in the mountains.
But I don’t want my friends to change their plans because of me, so I’ve agreed to go with them.
1.3
Boy:
What are you going to order, Liz?
Girl:
I think I’ll have a vegetable salad, as usual.
Boy:
Why don’t we try something new? How about baked salmon with some garlic bread?
Girl:
Yes, that sounds good. We can try it. But let’s have the salmon without the bread. I can’t stand garlic.
Boy:
OK. And some chocolate ice-cream for dessert?
Girl:
No way! We’re on a diet, remember?
Boy:
OK, OK, I remember.
1.4
Sara:
Hello, Will. Can I ask you a favour?
Will:
Sure, Sara. What’s up?
Sara:
Could you help me with my history project? I have to hand it in today, and I haven’t inished it yet.
Will:
Let’s try to do it this way – we’ll have lunch together at 1.15 and then we’ll go to the library to inish your project. When do
you have your history classes?
Sara:
Just after the lunch break at 2.15.
Will:
Would half an hour be enough time to inish your project?
Sara:
I hope so.
1.5
Man:
Look what I’ve got for you.
Woman:
Oh, it’s really nice. I’ll try it on. But look here … isn’t it a little bit dirty?
Man:
Where?
Woman:
Here … there’s a stain on the sleeve.
Man:
You’re right.
Woman:
And I can’t button it up.
Man:
Why? Is it too tight?
Woman:
No, a button is missing.
Man:
Oh, no. I’ll have to return it to the shop.
